Message from the President:

Well, Cobra season is here, at least that’s what the calendar says. The real world is saying something different!

We had to postpone Dick & Candy’s drive to Breckenridge because of the high altitude weather, but some of us just had to go somewhere! Mike and Janelle put together a Show & Go drive to the Black Forest Restaurant in Nederland. We had about 8 cars (and Dave R’s 1971 “Joe Dirt” Mustang finally caught up with us.)

The next weekend we went on Dick & Candy’s drive (see below) and Al, Deanna, Rick & Connie DeW. continued on to Leadville. Al & Deanna stayed the night in the Delaware Hotel (built in the 1880’s) and have a question for the group – did the floors in those old buildings squeak when they were new? Rick & Connie headed for a loop around TurquoiseLake and then back to Denver. Al & Deanna tried that TurquoiseLake drive Sunday morning, but the snow had closed the road. Why won’t winter just give it up?

Speaking of drives, got any ideas for one? We don’t have any single-day drives on the schedule. Let us in on your secret stretch of road or your favorite restaurant. Owning these little cars is a lot more fun if you take them out to play!

Recap of May events:

Dick & Candy’s trip to Breckenridge on May 28 (after the first one was snowed out) was a great drive.  Had 8 Cobras and 1 Viper for the day.  Thanks to Rob and Deb for arranging for the parking lot (Car Show) and lunch at Bubba Gumps (BTW – did you see the suitcase and box of chocolates left on the bench??)  Weather was great and as always we had a great time.  Can’t ask for more than a Cobra, Nice Weather, Good Roads and Great Friends.  Be sure to plan to join us for one of our outings soon. Here are some ideas for you:

IT’S SPRING TIME!!!  Time to get the Cobras out and have some fun.

Message from the Pres:  Well, it looks like Spring is trying it’s best to get here.  Some of us have already put a few miles on our cars and are ready for more!  It’s almost time for some of the “Official” MHCC events to take place.  Check the calendar for dates.  We still need some organizers for Day Drives so if you know of a great drive or a good destination, let me know!

Recently, new club members Doug & Mary Elmore needed help assembling their new garage lift.  We got a group of members together to pitch in.  Everything went smoothly, all had a great time and it reminded me of why Deanna and I are members of the Mile Hi Cobra Club.

Like most members, we bought our car because we wanted the thrill and “wow factor” that you get with a Cobra.  Let’s face it, these cars are awesome!  After we started doing things with the Club, we learned that the people who owned them are pretty awesome, too.  We’ve developed friendships that aren’t necessarily car-dependent because the Club is full of people that are a pleasure to be around.  If you haven’t been on a Club outing recently, come join us.  Even if you have been with us recently, we have a lot of new members or members who have just gotten their cars on the road.  Come on out and join your friends!  Old, New, or soon-to-be, let’s get together and have some fun!

June Drives - Have a great idea for a Club drive? We need somebody to host a June Drive. Plan a route, pick a date and let me know! Some members will be out of town the weekend of June 13-15, but don't let that stop you! Contact Al B with any ideas you have and if you would like to plan a drive.

Havana Cruise in the works Dick T. is working with merchants along Havana in Aurora for a “Cruizin’ Havana” on June 21.  Four festival sites are proposed along the 4.3 mile route which features 20 car dealers and 70 restaurants. Plans include entertainment at each site, a Boy Scout pinewood derby, and a poker run with a 50-inch TV as the main prize.
The Old Car Council and DARE will benefit from the sale of program advertising and sponsorships just like the organizations did from the Colfax Cruise.  Clubs are encouraged to assist in operating the event.
Naughton Ford wants a number of Fords (included Cobra’s).  Naughton Ford is willing to make a contribution to the MHCC if we park vehicles at their site.   The suggested rate is $10-15 per vehicle, negotiable between the clubs and businesses. Clubs can have activities, membership recruiting.  Assistance is also need for traffic control at the festival sites.  Anyone interested in any aspect of the event is asked to contact Mike T at
turbofanman@comcast.net.
Colorado Select Auto Centers, NAPA and DARE are back as sponsors for the Colfax Cruise, according to Dick.  He is also talking to Bandimere and American National Insurance for sponsorships.
OCCC has already signed a contract for East High School and there are positive indications for contracts with Colorado Mills on West Colfax, Invesco Field parking lot, JCRS Shopping Center, and space at University Physicians Building on the east side of the CU Medical Center on East Colfax.  Dick says he’d like to build on the success of last year’s inaugural Colfax Cruise.  He asks that clubs start discussing how they might participate and he plans to have a large-scale planning meeting very soon.

In addition to event planning, the Council continues to watch legislation in both the Colorado General Assembly and in other states.  Many of the legislative proposals deal with raising fees, controlling emissions, and managing ownership of older vehicles.

Bob W. Update

Bob came home from the hospital last week.  He is doing fine and regaining his strength and will start physical therapy soon.   He will not be driving for at least 6 weeks.  Bob and Betsy appreciate the cards and your thoughts.  Hopefully, he will be out and about soon and join us on our drives again.

Michael B. Update

Michael reports that his car has not been found. He is working with the insurance company as we speak.

MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT

What is it about a Cobra? Is it the sheer power? The thunderous rumbling of the exhaust? What is it that even makes Mother Nature snap to attention at the mere mention of Cobras?

We have our annual meeting scheduled in January, during the Stock Show, when we usually some have some of our worst winter weather, and even Mother Nature relents to give us a spring-like weekend, just perfect to rouse some snakes out of hibernation! Can you feel it? Cobra season is just around the corner!

The Mile Hi Cobra Club has some great things planned for this year. We’re going to have day-long drives (at least one each month) starting as early as April, maybe even March for the more, shall we say, “adventurous types.”  We also have some overnight trips starting in June. If you haven’t taken your Cobra out for an overnight trip, you’re in for a treat!

In July, we have the Big Daddy of ‘em all, the 2008 MHCC Cruise Colorado. Imagine five days in your Cobra, enjoying some of the most scenic, twisty roads Colorado is famous for.  The trip between towns is the drive and when you arrive at the overnight destinations, the fun really begins. Hanging out with 50 or so of your now closest friends, reliving the day and looking forward to tomorrow. You will hate for the trip to end!

Yeah, we’ve got some great things planned this year. C’mon on out and play!

Al B.
